Getting Started

So after getting back State side, I pulled the engine out and tore it apart. Aside from it being seized, it was in great condition. Once I pulled it apart I found that there was acorns in the pistons and a blown head gasket. I had pictures on my IPhone but it took a swim and they were all lost. However; besides the blown head gasket and the acorns in the pistons, the bike is in great condition. The Primary drive chain looks brand new. The points look as if they are perfect. The Wiring Harness is intact, and working, it hasn't been spliced or hacked into.

After getting the engine apart I separated from the Army and the project went to the weigh side. So after months of sitting in my shed I finally pulled it out. Knowing I was going to Bore the cylinders to .040 over. I headed down to a local shop Ken O'Connor Racing, in Brooklyn CT, who happens to be a long family friend. I showed up on his step with cylinder in hand and he graciously is boring them for free. Partly because his is a great friend, but mainly because of my military service.

So Now with the cylinders at his shop, and some time to do some other stuff, I needed to clean the gas tank out. So I set out to my friend google, and found an article that uses The Works toiletbowl cleaner, and some drywall screws. After about an hour of shaking two bottles and a hand full of screws in the gas tank, I opened up the cover and it was amazingly clean, All of the rust was removed, and it looked new. So After a quick rinse with some soapy water and a quick bomb of WD40. We are all set to go, Now just waiting on the return of the cylinders.

The Beginnings

During a deployment to South West Asia, A buddy got me hooked on rebuilding a bike. So I hit craigslist and started looking. I found a 72 BSA with 5000 miles on it, that needed a little TLC. So for 800 dollars I decided to buy it.
